Representative Missions: Stranded Helo Rescue Swimmer, Weekly Helo Training, Sailboat Recovery and Transfer, Interagency Coordination
FISR’s collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard reflects the organization’s integral role in regional emergency response. From supporting rescue swimmer recoveries to participating in weekly joint training operations, these missions represent the pinnacle of teamwork, discipline, and mutual trust. One defining example occurred during a coordinated rescue of a disabled 35-foot sailboat with one person and two pets onboard. Responding alongside Coast Guard RBM 45738 from Station Tybee, the FISR crew navigated rough 3.5-foot seas to stabilize the situation, transferring the sailor safely to the Coast Guard vessel before assisting with final transport to Fripp Marina for medical evaluation.
The partnership extends beyond single missions. Weekly helicopter hoist training builds seamless coordination between air and marine units, ensuring readiness for high-stakes rescues anywhere in the 100-square-mile service area. FISR volunteers operate in sync with Coast Guard protocols—from establishing safe approach vectors to maintaining clear radio channels and visual cues during night or storm conditions. Every exercise strengthens both organizations’ capacity to serve the public with precision and care.
These joint operations exemplify FISR’s core values in action: reliability through preparedness, integrity through disciplined coordination, and commitment through shared mission success. By training and operating alongside one of the nation’s most respected maritime agencies, FISR continues to enhance its ability to serve as a trusted volunteer force dedicated to saving lives and protecting those who venture onto the water.
Each collaboration with the Coast Guard underscores FISR’s dependability and its unwavering purpose to safeguard life at sea through teamwork and professionalism.
